Oral Fixation

For some reason, Amelia has always put things in her mouth. She has been the only one so far to take a pacifier, which we finally broke her of at the age of 3. She will still suck on her thumb on occasion, we had to concede to one finger instead of her whole hand. She still likes to put most toys and other objects into her mouth and generally chew on them. She is now 4 & 1/2.

Last night, her oral fixation got the better of her. She was using the bathroom and decided to pick up the razor I forgot to put away. (Mini heart attack moment, let me tell you!) She then put it to her mouth, of all places, and cut her lip a tiny bit. It wasn't serious and a small band-aid made it right as rain.

My biggest thought after the fact (besides beating myself up) was "Why her mouth? I would think her fingers." Once again, I simply don't understand the minds of children and the title of this blog is re-enforced:

Kids are the Darndest Things
